The tower company announced on Tuesday that it has partnered with local engineering firm Kejuruteraan Rasshin Sdn. Bhd. (KRSB) to fast-track infrastructure development and improve network accessibility across the region.

The initiative aligns with the Sarawak Digital Economy Blueprint 2030, supporting the state's ambitions to bridge the digital divide and enable urban and rural communities to benefit from advanced connectivity. By strengthening digital infrastructure, EDOTCO aims to bolster the local digital ecosystem, facilitating key sectors such as smart city development, e-commerce, digital education, and government digitalisation.

To ensure widespread and efficient network coverage, EDOTCO is deploying 4G and 5G-ready infrastructure that integrates low-orbit satellite technology and fixed wireless access. The company will also leverage its Network Planning and Analytics (NaPA) tools to optimise deployment strategies and incorporate renewable energy solutions, reinforcing sustainability in Sarawak’s telecommunications sector.

EDOTCO currently operates around 19,400 telecommunications towers in Malaysia, according to TowerXchange estimates. The latest expansion in Sarawak will further strengthen its presence in the region, ensuring reliable, high-speed connectivity in key commercial, industrial, and rural areas.

The initial deployment phase will target significant economic zones, enabling businesses and communities to tap into enhanced digital opportunities. Gayan Koralage, EDOTCO Malaysia’s Business Director, highlighted the strategic importance of this initiative in delivering tailored infrastructure solutions to suit Sarawak’s unique geographical and economic landscape.

"As the nation’s digital infrastructure partner, we are committed to helping mobile network operators expand their reach faster and more effectively across the state," Koralage stated.

This expansion is supported by the Sarawak government’s RM2.25 billion investment in telecommunications infrastructure, reaffirming its commitment to digital transformation and economic development.

By enhancing connectivity across the state, EDOTCO's investment is set to play a pivotal role in shaping Sarawak’s digital future, unlocking new opportunities for businesses, communities, and public services.
