DRC: Eastcastle Infrastructure signs two BTS deals 

Ex-Eaton Towers staffed towerco Eastcastle Infrastructure has signed two BTS contracts in DRC in recent weeks with two MNOs. The BTS towerco is beginning in the DRC but also targeting Nigeria and Ivory Coast for its initial markets.  

Ethiopia: Safaricom consortium gets its licence  

The Ethiopian Communications Authority (ECA) has issued Ethiopia’s first private communications licence. The licence is effective from July 9th 2021 for a term of 15 years and is renewable for additional terms of 15 years. Ethiotel is currently the sole MNO in the country and Safaricom will now commence building its network. At the same time Orange confirmed their interest in acquiring a stake in Ethiotel.
